New Residency: Wednesday's @ Descent

This day has been a long time coming, and it's finally here - the grand opening of Descent, the new nightclub in Boston's W Hotel.

I will be begin my new residency on Wednesday, November 23, and every Wednesday there-after.

This spot is ultra swank, and I'll select music to mold the mood.  World beats, downtempo, nu-disco, and deep house will all be on the menu.  That said, I am not 100% sure what to expect from the crowd, so I'll show up ready to fluxuate between more vibey aesthetics and dance-inspiring zones.  Let's get nice.

Infected Mushroom: What a Trip

OK, let's get a few cliche's out on the table:

- There's no business like show business
- The show must go on

With this in mind, I have to say that last Saturday's party at RISE with Infected Mushroom was one of the craziest RISE has ever seen (and that I've ever thrown).  We were packed from midnight to 6am with super-fans who were oozing with excitement, anticipation, and appreciation over this rare stateside after-hours DJ set from their favorite group.  The show went off without a hitch, and was a huge success by all accounts.

Booking acts like Infected Mushroom is great because they bring a special energy with them wherever they go.  It's like every fan on the dancefloor is having the absolute best night they have ever had, and they want every person around them to...

Boston, welcome Robert Babicz

It is my distinct pleasure to bring one of my all-time favorite artists to RISE for his Boston debut.  Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Robert Babicz is a studio wizard with a penchant for shuffly grooves, emotive melodies, lush pads, and gritty 303s.  I've been a fan of his for ages, and am honored to be sharing the DJ booth with him.

Follow this link to check out his most recent Essential Mix, aired March 26, 2011, on BBC Radio 1.

.:therapy w/ Alex Kenji... It's been a long time comin'!

I am pumped to me making my .:therapy debut this week, opening for the prolific DL/producer Alex Kenji.  I am a big fan of Alex's brand of tech-house, which is sometimes driving, other times shuffle'y and funky.  He also intersperses melodic elements, which is another guilty pleasure of mine.  Needless to say, I play a lot of his tracks.  It's going to be great to hear him do his thing.

For those that don't know, .:therapy is an after-hours club in Providence, RI.  It embodies everything I love about after-hours clubbing, as it's housed in a huge old brick warehouse, down a sketchy street, next to a highway, in a dodgy part of town (no disrespect, these attributes really are endearing to me!).  Most importantly, they book awesome EDM...

Layo & Bushwacka! to play RISE

Layo & Bushwacka! have been among my favorite artists for nearly a decade.  Like so many, I first learned about them when they released arguably their biggest hit, Love Story.  Then I stumbled upon their 1999 Essential Mix and was sold for life.  Their tuff mix of breakbeat, percussion, and organic elements grabbed me in a way that never let go.

Over the years the duo have kept with the times and adapted their sound to stay fresh.  Their current aesthetic of tech-house and techno is intelligent and persistent, and has me regularly DJing their tracks out and jamming to their live sets in the car.  This...
